CORVALLIS - Four public information sessions are planned in late July for a popular graduate certificate program in health care administration, offered by Oregon State University Extended Campus.
This program began in Central Oregon, grew in popularity and has expanded to the Willamette Valley, offering working professionals a solid background in the increasingly complex business aspects of health care. It's of particular value to physicians, nurses and health care administrators, educators say.
A new term will begin this year in Western Oregon in partnership with Samaritan Health Services, and in Bend with St. Charles Medical Center. The program is a collaboration of OSU Extended Campus, the OSU Department of Public Health and the College of Health and Human Sciences.
The informational sessions are:
"Now, more than ever, a current and complete understanding of the theories and methods of health care administration is critical to staying ahead in this industry," said Leonard Friedman, an associate professor of public health at OSU. "It's a field of almost continuous change, and there's a need to respond to the demands of patients, payers, providers, regulatory bodies and many others."
The courses in the program are delivered in a combination of on-site and online formats, and the six-course sequence can result in a graduate certificate in health care administration, or be applied towards either undergraduate or graduate degrees. Courses are designed to fit with work schedules, meet the needs of busy adults, and address such topics as business, insurance and health care management.

OSU Extended Campus is a national leader in distance education programs, and now offers four bachelor's degrees, five minors, and 10 graduate degrees or programs to students across Oregon and throughout the nation.
