CORVALLIS - Oregon State University is hosting three performances of "The Vagina Monologues" next month to focus attention on ending violence against women and girls.

Performances are set at 4 and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 and at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 at OSU's LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard. Advance tickets, priced at $6 for students and $8 general admission, are available at Corvallis' Grass Roots Books & Music, 227 S.W. 2nd St., OSU's Memorial Union Program Council office and the university Student Involvement office. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 presentation will be interpreted for the hearing impaired. For other accommodations, call OSU Peer Health Advocates at 541-737-2775.

The OSU performances are part of the national V-Day campaign, a global movement to end violence against women and girls founded by New York playwright and performer Eve Ensler. Proceeds from the OSU performances benefit the Corvallis-based Center Against Rape and Domestic Violence and the V-Day 2005 national campaign: "Women of Iraq, Under Siege" to help end violent conditions for women and girls in Iraq.

More than 2,000 performances of "The Vagina Monologues" are being performed this year in more than 42 countries worldwide as part of the V-Day campaign.

Some people may find the adult subject matter objectionable, producers said.

The monologues are a compilation of 200 interviews with women talking about their sex organs. A decade ago, Ensler had asked women from a mix of age, race and social backgrounds questions that delved into issues of female sexuality. Ensler then produced her work as a one-woman New York stage show in 1996.

At OSU, a number of different people will present selections from Ensler's work, including community people, as well as Oregon State University faculty, staff and students.
