A new contract between OSU and Collegiate Licensing Corp. has already resulted in a hip new product, just in time for the holiday gift-giving season – a Beaver bike shirt, perfect for the Lance Armstrong wannabe in your family.

OSU entered into the new relationship with CLC – the nation’s leading collegiate trademark licensing and marketing company – in October to enhance the quality and variety of products bearing the university’s marks. CLC represents more than 200 colleges, universities, bowl games, athletic conferences, the Heisman Trophy and the NCAA (including the Men's and Women's Final Four, the College World Series and all NCAA Championships).

Its first new product is the bike shirt – a lined, polyester jersey featuring a zip-up front, rear cargo pockets for energy food and other essentials and a large, bold Beaver logo emblazoned across the chest. The shirt is available online through sports retailer REI at www.rei.com and sells for $80 (search the site for “Oregon State,” and the jersey is the first item you’ll see).

“With the heightened attention that cycling has drawn in recent years and its popularity in Oregon, we’re sure that this shirt is going to be popular among OSU alumni, students and other Beaver supporters,” said OSU University Advancement Vice President Luanne Lawrence, who noted that the shirt was developed based on a suggestion from alumnus and Alumni Association Board Member, Ty Oliver, ‘79. “Even more importantly, this is the first of what I’m sure will be many more creative new approaches to OSU apparel and merchandise from CLC. They’ve brought a great new energy and enthusiasm to our marketing efforts.”

CLC is also working to get the bike shirt in other major sports retail stores immediately, said Lawrence.

“We are honored and excited Oregon State University has awarded us the opportunity to manage and grow its licensing program,” said Pat Battle, president and CEO of CLC, which also represents Pac 10 schools Washington State University, the University of Arizona, the University of Washington and Stanford University. “We hope this is the beginning of a prosperous and lasting relationship between both organizations.”
