CORVALLIS - "Electronic Voting: Voting Process is Technology," is the topic of a free talk at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 11, in Oregon State University's Withycombe Hall Room 103.

Free and open to the public, the talk by Ted Selker, co-director of the Caltech-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Voting Technology Project, will address several controversies facing voting security, accuracy, and integrity. Voting technologies being tried worldwide will be discussed.

The talk is sponsored by OSU's Memorial Union Programs in conjunction with the university's Convocations & Lectures Committee.

The Caltech-MIT Voting Technology Project was an immediate by-product of the 2000 presidential election, Selker said.

Supported initially by the Carnegie Corp. of New York and later joined by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the project was established as a joint academic commission to prevent disputed elections in the future by examining potential problems in the voting process and introducing technological improvements for voting procedures.

"Since then, we have made substantial progress researching the many problems that plague the American electoral system," Selker said.
