CORVALLIS - "From Global Awareness to Global Action," a seven-hour experience focusing on world issues, will run from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Oregon State University's Memorial Union.

Activities for the event are free and open to the public and include a body image presentation, a talk on depleted uranium and the film, "Syria: Between Iraq and a Hard Place." A variety of informational exhibits will be on display in the campus' MU Quad through 6 p.m.

Formal presentations start at 3 p.m. in the MU Lounge with a 60-minute presentation on the "Victory Soldiers Campaign" and a presentation on the Alternative Communication Techniques project.

"Victory Soldiers," spearheaded by U.S. Marine Reserve Lance Cpl. Matthew Dardis, is working to assure adequate incidental supplies for U.S. troops around the world. The A.C.T. project, based in Portland, seeks to use improved communication techniques to further the cause of world peace and global understanding.

At 4 p.m., Corvallis resident Tina Empol, vice president of Oregon's National Organization for Women, will discuss "Gender and Global Body Image." At 5:30 p.m., Marla Benoist, Amnesty International volunteer, will talk about the effects of depleted uranium in the global community.

"Syria: Between Iraq and a Hard Place," will be screened at 6:30 p.m. The film chronicles the summer of 2003 in the Middle East as the Iraq war escalated and tensions rose in the region. Filmmakers Saul Landau, Sonia Angulo and Farrah Hassen traveled throughout the Middle East, from Damascus to Tartus, Hama, Aleppo, Bosra and the Golan Heights.
