CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Foundation has named Shawn L. Scoville as the new senior vice president for development.
Scoville is an associate vice president of development at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he led the main campus fund-raising efforts during a $1 billion capital campaign. He will start his new position in Corvallis on Feb. 7.
"We are very fortunate to have someone with Shawn Scoville's leadership and ability," said OSU Foundation CEO Mike Goodwin, who has worked with Scoville in the past. "He was a key element in the success of the Georgetown capital campaign. He's a gifted fundraiser himself, and he will be a strong mentor and role model in efforts here."
Scoville's experience with a major fund-raising drive will be valuable in launching OSU's first campus-wide capital campaign, Goodwin added.
During his 16-year career with Georgetown, Scoville worked through the beginning, middle and end of a seven-year campaign. As associate vice president, he led 40 people in nine development units to raise $709 million for the university's main campus, exceeding expectations and doubling the number of endowed student scholarships, professorships and chairs.
Scoville said he was attracted to the position by Oregon State's land grant mission, extensive scientific research, and Pac-10 athletics, as well as by the opportunity to help initiate a new campaign.
"There is such incredible promise and potential at OSU," said Scoville. "I am excited about arriving at the start of a major campaign, and it will be a pleasure to be part of that success story."
The OSU Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises private funds for scholarships, research, teaching and facilities at Oregon State University. Recent major fund-raising projects include the construction of the Kelley Engineering Center, the restoration of Weatherford Hall, and the expansion of Reser Stadium.
The foundation has total assets of $441.5 million with an endowment of $277.7 million. In 2003-04, the foundation raised $53.1 million, one of the best years in its history.
