CORVALLIS - Oregon Sea Grant - a marine research, education and outreach program at Oregon State University - is casting a broad net in hopes of catching some elusive video footage.

The organization is developing an educational video program about severe coastal winter storms and their effects on shoreline environments, and they're asking Oregonians who have shot such footage to share it with Sea Grant.

"We're looking for dramatic scenes at the beach that may include heavy rains, steep ocean swells and pounding surf, rolling logs, storm surge, beach or bluff erosion, and endangered properties," said Joseph Cone, the Sea Grant video producer.

Capturing such scenes on film is difficult to plan, and suitable storm events don't always happen each year, he said, thereby making the production time for a video program possibly very long.

"Sometimes a person with a video recorder at the right place and time can shoot images that are hard to get otherwise," Cone said.

Sea Grant is asking for people with such footage not to send the materials, but to contact the program first by e-mail or post to describe what the footage shows, where it was shot, and what format the tape is in, such as VHS, Hi-8, or mini-DV. Cone will respond.

The e-mail address is sea.grant.communications@oregonstate.edu and the office address is Sea Grant Communications, 322 Kerr Admin. Bldg, OSU, Corvallis OR 97331.
