CORVALLIS - Oregon State University and USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists will present their findings on cereal grain and seed crop research at the annual Hyslop Farm Field Day on Wednesday, May 26. This event is open to the public and will run from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The morning session will focus on the latest cereal grains research, including updates on the OSU wheat quality program, wheat variety trials and the barley project. Entomologists will discuss cereal leaf beetle and other insect pests. Weed scientists will discuss a variety of herbicides used in the Willamette Valley.

The afternoon session will feature recent field crops research, including information on several disease and insect pests menacing grass seed crops. Other topics will include spring irrigation management, nitrogen fertilization rates and no-till crop rotation strategies.

Hyslop Farm is located six miles northeast of Corvallis on Granger Road, just off of Highway 20. Watch for signs. The morning tour begins at 9 a.m. with registration and refreshments. Field tours will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Oregon Seed Council and Valley chapters of the Oregon Wheat Grower League are sponsoring lunch. The OSU Crops Club will prepare lunch, served on-site at noon.
