PORTLAND - Carol Coren, community program specialist at Oregon State University's Food Innovation Center in Portland, has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Technology and eGovernment Advisory Council.

Coren is one of nine new members appointed by USDA secretary Ann M. Veneman to the national committee, which sets priorities for USDA's information technology initiatives and investments.

"This is a distinguished honor recognizing Carol's past work in web-based education, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce," said John Henry Wells, superintendent of OSU's Food Innovation Center in Portland.

The Food Innovation Center is a collaboration of OSU's College of Agricultural Sciences and the Oregon Department of Agriculture. It is a unique incubator for new food businesses and is the only urban-based Agriculture Experiment Station in the United States.

The center's facilities include analytical laboratories, food production kitchens, package engineering and equipment development tools, sensory testing and market research facilities, as well as meeting spaces and training rooms.
