CORVALLIS - Andrew Klein, director of the Radiation Center and head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics at Oregon State University, has been elected to two executive committees of the American Nuclear Society.

In the Operations and Power Division, Klein will bring a university perspective to a group made up predominantly of power industry personnel. This division disseminates knowledge and information to its members about power and non-power nuclear reactors, and nuclear facilities. They also support a number of scholarships.

Klein will also serve on the Aerospace Nuclear Science and Technology Working Group, which is "organized to promote the advancement of knowledge in the use of nuclear science and technologies in the aerospace applications ... plus enhance the safety of air travel, especially high speed air travel."

As a member of both committees, Klein will help formulate the direction the American Nuclear Society takes in these divisions.

Klein is an expert in space nuclear applications design, nuclear systems analysis, and radiation shielding. He has been on the OSU faculty since 1985, department head since 1996, and director of the Radiation Center research facility since 2002.
