CORVALLIS - Improving reproductive efficiency in cattle operations based in range environments is the focus of a one-day workshop scheduled for June 16, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus. The event is open to the public.

The program, "Reproductive Management for Extensive Environments," is aimed at livestock producers operating in range systems, said Jim Thompson, OSU Extension Service livestock faculty and program coordinator. The workshop is sponsored by the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science and the OSU Animal Sciences Department.

The schedule of speakers includes animal scientists, and an economist, from universities throughout the intermountain west.

Norman Dalsted, an agricultural economist at Colorado State University, will speak on "The Importance of Calving Distribution and Reproductive Efficiency on Returns to the Cow/Calf Producer."

Bret Hess, livestock nutritionist at the University of Wyoming, will speak on nutritional controls on reproduction; and Kenneth Olson, animal scientist at Utah State University will speak on range management for efficient reproduction.
