DALLAS - Helping sheep producers prepare for a good start to the upcoming lambing season is the focus of the 22nd annual Mid-Willamette Valley Lambing School, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18 in the McMinnville area. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The one-day lambing workshop is co-sponsored by the Oregon State University Extension Service and Chemeketa Community College and is aimed at both novice and experienced sheep producers. The exact location will be announced later.

"This program will provide participants with information on how to increase the odds of getting live lambs on the ground and off to a good start during lambing season," said Gene Pirelli, OSU Extension Service regional livestock specialist.

Scheduled presenters are Pirelli; State Veterinarian Don Hansen from the Oregon Department of Agriculture; and Jim Thompson, OSU Extension sheep specialist.

Presentation topics include dealing with abnormal deliveries, lamb survival, obstetrics, grafting, foot trimming, ewe and lamb health, vaccinations, and dealing with emergency situations. Presenters will also discuss sheep nutrition and facilities.

The cost of the school is $45 per person and registration is limited. Pre-registration is required and must be completed by Jan. 4. Registration forms are available online at http://extension.oregonstate.edu/yamhill/pages/livestock_forage.html.
