CORVALLIS - Cultural perspectives on gay and transgender people will be the focus as Oregon State University's Queer Pride Week starts with a two-hour welcome barbecue in the campus' Memorial Union Quad at noon on Monday, May 10.

Nearly 20 events are scheduled throughout the week, including discussions on gay marriage, religion, and understanding sexuality. All events are free and open to the public.

A "Pride Tent" in the Quad will serve as a focal point for activities throughout the week. A complete schedule of events will be available from OSU's Rainbow Continuum, which is staffing a table in the Quad from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week. The continuum, which is sponsoring the week's event, is a campus student group that focuses on providing social and personal support to students.
