CORVALLIS - John Hogan, an Oregon State University health educator and consultant, has been honored by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging for his work in mentoring students.
Hogan, an instructor in OSU's Department of Public Health, will receive the 2003 Dr. Herbert Shore Outstanding Mentor Award at the group's annual meeting Oct. 26-29 in Denver, Colo.
The OSU educator was cited for his "profound influence on the hundreds of students he has taught at Oregon State University," according to Ruth Gulyas, executive director of the Oregon Alliance of Senior and Health Services.
Hogan was also cited for his accessibility to students, his work in linking them with organizations providing services related to aging, and his success in helping students launch professional careers in the field of long-term health care.
He is a board member for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, as well as the Oregon Alliance of Senior and Health Services, and other organizations.
Hogan serves as the executive director of the Holgate Center, a Portland aging care facility, and has been a faculty instructor at Oregon State University since 1984. He is on the Governor's Medicaid Advisory Committee, and volunteers as adviser to the OSU student chapter of the American College of Healthcare Administrators.
