CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Press has published a new book on the Oregon wine industry that serves as a successor to a popular growers guide used by professional and amateur vintners for years.
The new version is called "Oregon Viticulture" and it is aimed at commercial wine grape growers, students, researchers, serious home viticulturalists and others with strong interest in Northwest wines and the industry. It offers successful strategies and methods for commercial vineyards to help current growers, prospective growers, and home vintners.
Edited by Edward W. Hellman, the book is designed as a valuable reference, textbook and guide to the art and science of wine making. Hellman, who has a Ph.D. in horticulture, has researched the wine industry and taught viticulture for 20 years. He was on the faculty of OSU from 1994 to 2000, before moving to a joint position with Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University.
The book serves as a successor to the popular "Oregon Winegrape Growers Guide," offering broader, more in-depth coverage.
"The volume is unique in its approach of combining the expertise and experience of university researchers with that of professional grape growers and winemakers," said Tom Booth, marketing manager for the OSU Press. "Most chapters were written by at least two authors with different perspectives."
"Oregon Viticulture" is available in bookstores and libraries, or can be ordered by calling 1-800-426-3797. The 272-page book sells for $44.95.
