CORVALLIS - Victor Ambros, a professor of genetics at Dartmouth Medical School and expert on the development of complex organisms, will present the 2003 Gene D. Knudson Lectures at Oregon State University on Nov. 11.
The public presentation is titled "Scientists are People and All People are Scientists: Science as a Human Instinct," and is sponsored by the Center for Gene Research and Biotechnology at OSU. The free public lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center's Construction and Engineering Auditorium.
Ambros has made pioneering discoveries about the mechanisms that control growth and development of complex organisms. Using model organisms, such as flies and worms, Ambros uncovered an entirely new form of genetic regulation that occurs in most animals and plants.
He has won several awards, including the Newcomb Cleveland Prize for the top contribution in the journal Science in 2001-2002.
