CORVALLIS - The latest advances in research on fisheries and wildlife will be explored Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Oregon State University in a symposium sponsored by the Fisheries and Wildlife Graduate Student Association.
The program, which is free and open to the public, will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus. Titled "Research Advances in Fisheries, Wildlife and Ecology Symposium," the program will showcase research advances, Extension and community outreach activities in the OSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife.
A keynote address at 4 p.m. will feature James Estes, research wildlife biologist with the Western Ecological Research Center of the U.S. Geological Survey. His presentation is "Defaunated Food Webs: Large Vertebrates and Nature's Balance."
Other presentations, posters and workshops will be held earlier in the day. Workshops to be held from 8 a.m. to noon include one on methods of community analysis, and another on human dimensions of watershed restoration. A workshop from 1-3 p.m. will discuss population viability analysis.
