CORVALLIS - The College of Science at Oregon State University has appointed Janine E. Trempy and Frank L. Moore as associate deans in half-time positions to replace its retiring associate dean, Richard Thies.
Trempy, an associate professor in microbiology, will focus on undergraduate affairs for the college. Her "involvement and interest in student success made her a natural choice for the position," said Sherman Bloomer, dean of the college.
Moore, a distinguished professor of zoology, will oversee research and graduate affairs. He has received numerous awards and honors for his research and teaching, and his mentorship of graduate students has helped many jump-start their own academic careers.
Trempy and Moore will assume half-time roles as associate deans while also continuing their research and teaching activities.
"Janine Trempy and Frank Moore bring a wealth of experience and capability to their new roles as associate deans," said Bloomer. "Their strong leadership in many areas, as well as their dedication to student success, will be of tremendous benefit to the college."
Other changes at the College of Science this year include naming Doug Keszler, a professor of chemistry, as chair of the Department of Chemistry. Andrew Blaustein, a professor of zoology, was appointed director of the Environmental Sciences Program, and Roger Nielsen was named chair of the Department of Geosciences.
