CORVALLIS - Oregon State University is planning a series of events to celebrate International Education Week, set for Nov. 17-22.
The series begins at noon on Monday in the Memorial Union Lounge on the OSU campus. International students will provide entertainment and Christine Sproul, director of OSU's Office of International Education, will speak about OSU's international programs. International students and returned study abroad students will also speak about their experiences.
Other activities throughout the week include panel discussions, information sessions on international programs and scholarships, as well as a presentation on Peace Corps volunteer opportunities.
The week will culminate with a free international Thanksgiving dinner sponsored by the International Students of OSU from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Memorial Union Ballroom.
Advance tickets for the dinner are required and are available on campus at the Student Involvement office, 149 MU East. More information about the week is available from the Office of International Education at 737-3006.
This is the fourth annual observance of the week, which was established in 2000 as part of the implementation of President Bill Clinton's directive calling for an international education policy for the United States. Across the nation, colleges and communities will mark the event with international festivals, cultural presentations, embassy visits, and other special events.
The U.S. Departments of State and Education have stressed the importance of International Education Week as an opportunity to recognize the many important contributions of international education to the nation, and have highlighted the need to ensure that American students are prepared to meet the challenges of the global age.
