CORVALLIS - New rain gear for the OSU Marching Band will feature both form and function, allowing the band to perform in dry, high style at the next home game in Reser Stadium on Nov. 15.
Each musician will have a brand new set of rain gear thanks to a donation from Pacific Trail, an outerwear company based in Seattle.
The outfits won't replace the traditional uniforms the band wears during dryer weather, or the casual orange polo/black slacks combo they favor for some other occasions, but it will provide a dash of style and function on the rainy days that are still to come this fall.
The rain gear is a huge hit with musicians and audiences alike, said Brad Townsend, director of Athletic Bands.
"We are really very pleased to have Pacific Trail as our corporate sponsor," Townsend said. "The band looks great, and the kids absolutely love the new gear."
Each suit, valued at nearly $200 retail, consists of waterproof pants and a waterproof jacket with the Beaver logo embroidered prominently over the wearer's heart. Pacific Trail provided gear for every current member of the band, and has committed to outfit new members for the next few years as well.
"We're glad we look good," Townsend said. "And the recognition of gifts like this one from Pacific Trail lets us know we're making a difference out there. It really helps us perform our best."
