CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert called "An Evening of Big Band Jazz" on Friday, March 14, at Oregon State University. The free public concert begins at 7 p.m. in OSU's Memorial Union Ballroom.
The concert will feature a variety of jazz styles. Some of the selections are "Big Dipper," composed by Thad Jones; and two pieces recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra - "Wind Machine" and "Basie-Straight Ahead."
The jazz band will premiere "Message To A Friend" and "I've Never Been In Love Before," both arranged by Erik Nelson, a member of the ensemble.
This year the ensemble is entirely student-run. It is directed by Ben Lawson, a senior in music education.
