CORVALLIS - Issues of war and peace in Islam and Christianity will be the focus of a presentation on Thursday, Jan. 16, at Oregon State University. The event, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in OSU's Memorial Union Ballroom, is free and open to the public.

Marcus Borg, the Hundere Distinguished Professor of Religion and Culture at OSU, and Dr. Mohammed Mohammed, a Corvallis physician, will speak about "The Present Crisis - Iraq: Traditions of War and Peace in Islam and Christianity."

Borg is an internationally known biblical and historical Jesus scholar and the author of 11 books, including the best-selling "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time." He has appeared on several national television programs about Jesus, including NBC's Today Show, PBS's Newshour and ABC's Prime Time.

Mohammed is originally from Egypt. The Corvallis physician, who specializes in internal medicine, has two daughters who attend OSU.

Following presentations by each speaker, the audience will be invited to ask questions.

The event is sponsored by OSU's Faculty for Peace & Justice, the Department of Political Science, the Department of Anthropology, the Department of Art, the Department of Philosophy, and the Women's Studies Program.
