CORVALLIS - Alan AtKisson, an author, singer-songwriter and advocate for global sustainability, will speak at Oregon State University on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

His presentation, titled "Sustainability is Dead - Long Live Sustainability," will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the LaSells Stewart Center. Sponsored by the OSU Center for Water and Environmental Sustainability, it is free and open to the public.

AtKisson is the author of "Believing Cassandra: An Optimist Looks at a Pessimist's World," which argues that humanity is on a collision course with the laws of nature, and explores ways to address the "flawed system" confronting the world.

Human population growth and human consumption are pushing the limits of critical resources such as water and soil for food production, AtKisson says, placing Earth on the road towards collapse. But humans also have an enormous capacity to evolve, the author says, and could learn how to repair most of the damage we have caused and re-invent the systems on which we depend for survival.

More information on the author, his programs and activities can be found on the web at www.atkisson.com.
