CORVALLIS - Dr. Olaf R. Hedstrom, an associate professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University, died on Feb. 11 following a long illness with cancer.

Hedstrom, 54, was a diagnostic pathologist with the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at OSU, and a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. He received his doctorate in veterinary pathology from Iowa State University in 1986 and veterinary medical degree from the University of California at Davis in 1976.

"Ole was one of the first professors brought in to start this new veterinary college in Oregon, he was one of the pioneers," said Linda Blythe, associate dean of the college and long-time colleague. "He taught the veterinary pathology course to the first year students and was a diagnostician in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, serving the public for his entire career. Ole was a wonderful colleague, a dedicated husband and totally engaged father to his three girls. We will truly miss him."

Friends and colleagues are invited to a mass celebrating Hedstrom's life on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corvallis.
