CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Chamber Choir and OSU vocal jazz ensemble, Voices in the Hall, will perform on Thursday, March 13, in the OSU Memorial Union Lounge. The free public concert, which begins at noon, is part of the Music a la Carte concert series.

The OSU Chamber Choir, conducted by Steven Zielke, consists of 26 selected voices from the student population, and specializes in performances of the finest in choral literature. This concert will include a variety of music, including "Jauchzet dem Herren," a double choir motet by Heinrich Schütz, and "David's Lamentation," a dramatic and moving motet by Joshua Shank, a young American composer.

Also on the program will be Max Reger's dramatic motet "O Tod, wie bitter bist du." Reger composed the work in only five hours, in memory of Lili Wach, the daughter of Felix Mendelssohn. Considered one of the masterpieces of the a cappella choral tradition, the work sets a text taken from the Apocryphal book of Ecclesiasticus in two parts.

The concert will conclude with a set of spirituals.
