ALBANY - A morning workshop to help family business owners learn the basics of transferring a business from one generation to the next is scheduled in Albany for Wednesday, Feb. 19, by Oregon State University's Austin Family Business Program.

The workshop is being held in conjunction with OSU's Business and Information Technology Extension program. The three-hour workshop, "Succession Basics," starts at 9 a.m. at the Linn County Fairgrounds, 3700 Knox Butte Rd. Cost for the event is $20 per person or business operation.

The program will address why 70 percent of family businesses fail in the second generation and 50 percent of those that survive fail in the third generation. Tactics to beat the odds - and learn the ins and outs of succession - will be discussed.
