The competition was open to residents of Oregon and Washington who are high school graduates and under 27 years of age. He will receive the award and perform at the Mu Phi Epsilon Scholarship ceremony in May.

Buck, a music major and baritone in the OSU Chamber Choir, has won every major undergraduate competition in the Pacific Northwest. He was also co-winner of the 2001 Monday Music Club scholarship competition; the recipient of he 2001 Robert Walls Choral Scholarship, and in 2002 received the John and Shirley Byrne Scholarship.

"Conrad's talent and dedication have been acknowledged by every professional musician he has sung for," said Richard Poppino, director of vocal studies at OSU. "He works constantly to improve his singing, his musicality, and his acting. He is one of the most artistically curious students we have, listening to every vocal recording he can get his hands on and going to every opera performance he can possibly drive to.

"His hard work and enthusiasm have resulted in steady, impressive growth as a performer," Poppino added. "We're proud to have him representing OSU throughout the region."

Buck played Prince Charming in the OSU Opera Workshop and Opera Theater Corvallis production of "Sleeping Beauty," and appeared in "Albert Herring" and "The Fowl Opera Trilogy." He participated in the Bel Canto Northwest Program where he played the role of Guillot in Offenbach's "Marriage by Lantern Light."

He began his voice studies at OSU with Maggie Daane and currently studies with Poppino.
