CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will host a symposium on Tuesday, April 29, called "Homosexuality, Nazis, and the Holocaust" as part of OSU's Holocaust Memorial Week commemoration.

The Thomas Hart and Mary Jones Horning Endowment in the Humanities at OSU is sponsoring the symposium in cooperation with the university's history department. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Construction and Engineering Auditorium of LaSells Stewart Center, and is free and open to the public.

Presentations include:

  • "Male Bonding and Homosexuality in Nazi Germany," by Harry Oosterhuis, University of Maastricht;
  • "The Nazi as Homosexual/The Homosexual as Nazi: Historicizing a Persistent Cultural Fantasy," by Mark Meyers, University of King's College;
  • Comparative Victimhood: Holocaust and/versus Homocaust," by James D. Steakley, University of Wisconsin.

Serving as commentator for the event will be Geoffrey Giles, from the University of Florida.
