CORVALLIS -Make a meal of mealworms, shake hands with a walking stick, and cheer for the maggot races. Come sample the creepiest and crunchiest creatures Oregon State University has to offer during their wild celebration of Natural History Discovery Days.
On April 29-30, LaSells Stewart Center will be crawling with weird and wonderful beasts from all corners of OSU's departments of Entomology, Botany and Plant Pathology, and Fisheries and Wildlife, as well as the university's Hatfield Marine Science Center.
Entomologist chef Lynn Royce will dish up the best in bug-cuisine, including dry-roasted grasshoppers and stir-fried mealworms. Plant pathologists will offer a bug's-eye view of fruits and vegetables, both fresh and rotten. Marine biologists will have tide pool critters to touch and feel. And there will be snakes and frogs, skins and skulls for anyone with an interest in bigger beasts.
For those with more sublime tastes, there will be filberts to nibble and gorgeous displays of native plants and butterflies from around the world.
The doors will open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, at LaSells Stewart Center, 875 S.W. 26th St. in Corvallis. Natural History Discovery Days is free and open to the public.
