CORVALLIS - Henry Krebs of Ione will be honored as a Diamond Pioneer Thursday, Oct. 17, by the Oregon State University College of Agricultural Sciences.

He is one of 43 men and women being added to the college's Diamond Pioneer Agricultural Achievement Registry. The registry, in its 19th year, began when the college marked its 75th anniversary. The registry honors those 75 and older for their contributions to agriculture, natural resources and OSU.

The 2002 class will be guests at a luncheon hosted by Thayne Dutson, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences, at the OSU Alumni Center. The featured speaker will be Gary Stewart of the Leadership Oregon Institute.

Krebs is being cited particularly for his long-time support of Oregon's sheep industry as well as for his work on the family's ranch at Cecil. He was nominated by the OSU Morrow County Extension staff, Morrow County Stockgrowers Association and the OSU animal sciences department.

After graduating from OSU in 1951, Krebs returned to the family operation as a partner in Krebs Brothers. Later he joined sons Clint and Skye and their wives in Krebs Ranches, where he remains an active participant.

He has been an active member of the Oregon Sheep Growers Association for more than 50 years and was awarded a life membership in 1995. He was involved in forming the Oregon Sheep Commission and served as chair from 1980-82. He is a past recipient of the Master Shepherd of the Year award from the OSU Sheep Advisory Council.

Krebs has been active in the promotion of sheep and sheep products for many years, contributing 4-H awards, prizes for industry-related contests and meat for cooking demonstrations. The Morrow County Stockgrowers honored the Krebs Brothers Ranch as Livestock Men of the Year in 1970.
