CORVALLIS - Oregon State University has once again established a contingency fund that will grant cash to OSU students who can show that the statewide tuition increase will prevent them from attending school.

To be eligible for the $320 one-term grant, students must explain in writing why the tuition increase is going to keep them from attending OSU, said Kate Peterson, director of OSU's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Contingency fund request forms are available from the university's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, 218 Kerr Administration Building and on the World Wide Web at http://osu.orst.edu/admin/finaid/pdfs/scan0.pdf.

OSU first offered the tuition aid to students last year, Peterson said.

"Initially, this was just a one-time program," but student leadership worked with the university to fund the program again this year, she said.

"We just want students to know that this assistance is available to them if they are in need. The goal of the contingency fund is to help keep students in school who might otherwise have to quit for financial reasons."
