CORVALLIS - Oregon State University's Marlan Carlson, who chairs the Department of Music, will return to China in late October to conduct two concerts in Zhengzhou and Shanghai.

Last year he was named Permanent Honorable Guest Conductor of the Henan Province Symphony Orchestra in Zhengzhou. This appearance will be his third concert with the orchestra.

Carlson will conduct the Shanghai Opera Orchestra for his first time, in a concert featuring OSU trumpet instructor Jay Chen in the Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. Other works on the program include the Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6, Wagner's "Meistersinger Overture," and a suite from Bizet's "Carmen."
