CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Marching Band will host the annual OSU Marching Band Championships on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 11 a.m. in Reser Stadium.
This annual all-day event will feature the talents of more than 2,000 high school performers from 16 Oregon high schools, competing in more than 34 separate performances. The OSU marching band, under the direction of Brad Townsend, will perform at 3:45 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The preliminary competition, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., features 16 high school bands presenting their field shows. Bands are allowed 15 minutes to present their program and are then judged by eight different adjudicators who address different aspects of each band's performance: music, marching, percussion, color guard, and general effect (entertainment value).
The finals competition will begin at 6 p.m. Awards will be given at the conclusion of the finals competition.
High Schools attending the competition are: Aloha; Beaverton; Centennial (Gresham); Century (Hillsboro); Crater (Central Point); McKay (Salem); Mountainview (Vancouver); Phoenix (Phoenix); Southridge (Beaverton); Sprague (Salem); Sunset (Portland); Tigard; West Salem; Westview (Portland); and Willamette (Eugene).
An all-day pass to the event is $10 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
