CORVALLIS - Comedian D.L. Hughley will be a featured opening night attraction as Oregon State University hosts Dad's Weekend 2002 on Friday, Oct.25, through Sunday, Oct. 27.
This year's Dad's Weekend football contest features the OSU Beavers hosting the University of California Golden Bears in Reser Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m., with an OSU Fan Fair celebration scheduled to start about 10 a.m. adjacent to the stadium. Tickets to the game are sold out, but no tickets are needed to attend Fan Fair.
Hughley goes on stage at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. Tickets are available through the OSU Athletics Ticket Office at 800-GO BEAVS or 541-737-4455.
In addition to football and comedy, there are a variety of other activities offered during the weekend, including a rafting trip, tours and golf competition. Weekend activities begin on Friday when students are encouraged to take their fathers to OSU's Dixon Recreation Center, where dads will have free access to swimming, basketball courts, weight machines and a variety of other fitness activities.

Friday, Oct. 25
- All day: Dads admitted free to Dixon Recreation Center; Fairbanks Gallery of Art: "Sweat and Steam," prints, pastels, & paintings by Native American artist Rick Bartow; Monique Janssen-Belitz and painting class artists, LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard; and self-guided tours of OSU's Valley Library.
- Noon: OSU Men's Soccer vs. UCLA, Lorenz Field, Valley Stadium.
- 1 p.m.: College of Pharmacy reception, Pharmacy Building.
- 2:30 p.m.: OSU Women's Soccer vs. Arizona State, Lorenz Field, Valley Stadium.
- 4 p.m.: Indoor Climbing Center opens for students and dads, through 10 p.m.
- 5 p.m.: OSU's Memorial Union Program Council will greet dads through 7 p.m. with pizza, schedules, tickets and live jazz. MU Quad Stage.
- 7 p.m.: Screening of the film, "The Rookie." Rated G, Dennis Quaid stars in this true story of a teacher, Jim Morris, who had to leave minor league baseball because of an injury to his pitching arm. He ends up being the oldest major league rookie in nearly 30 years. Free, MU Lounge, with an encore performance at 9:30 p.m.
- 7 p.m.: "A River Runs Through It," Robert Redford's 1992 film, rated PG, about a minister father using fly-fishing to relate to his sons. Academy Award for Cinematography. MU Joyce Powell Leadership Center, $3 for dads and students, $5 general admission, with an encore performance at 9:15 p.m.

- 9 a.m.: Bowling, through 4 p.m., MU Recreation Center. Two games per person, students and dad $12; or add pool, pizza and ice cream for $3 more. Prizes.
- 9 a.m.: Chintimini Wildlife Rehabilitation Center display, through 1 p.m. MU Quad, free.
