CORVALLIS - A Veterans Day ceremony and vigil honoring American prisoners of war and those missing in action will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Oregon State University's Memorial Union Quad.
Oregon State's 1st Lt. James L. Badley squadron of the volunteer Air Force ROTC Arnold Air Society, in conjunction with Army and Naval ROTC personnel, is conducting the annual event. The event honors those men and women who gave up their freedom to protect others.
Ceremonies begin with a joint service drill team with a missing member formation. Following the joint service team, Joey Brett, brother of Corvallis Air Force Capt. Robert "Lefty" Brett, will speak about his brother and the significance of service to country. Capt Brett died in a bombing run in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Capt Brett's remains were retrieved and identified this past summer.
The ceremony will include a reading of Oregon's prisoners of war and missing in action by Arnold Air Society members followed by a 21-gun salute. A 24-hour vigil will be held in conjunction with Army Navy & Marine ROTC and will begin with a fly-by of F-15 jets by the Oregon Air National Guard.
