CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Department of Music and the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra will present two performances of their festive annual Holiday Concert on Friday, Dec. 6. Performances begin at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at LaSells Stewart Center, 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis.
The Holiday Concert combines the talents of three OSU choirs, under the direction of Tina Bull and Steven Zielke, and the Corvallis-OSU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marlan Carlson.
The first half of the program features Vincenzo Bellini's "Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra," with soloist Adam Parnell, oboe. Handel's choral work, "Dixit Dominus," which is written in the operatic style and requires virtuoso singing by the choir, includes solos by Amy Gilson and Camelia Nine, soprano; Megan Sand, mezzo-soprano; Conrad Buck and Matthew Clark, tenor; and Jonathan Baltera, bass-baritone.
The second part of the program includes Gustav Holst's "Christmas Day," Moore's "A Christmas Alleluia," and the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah," as well as the traditional Christmas sing-along.
Tickets for adults are $19 in advance and $22 at the door. High school and college students are admitted free with ID. Younger students are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available at the OSU Department of Music, Scandinavian Trading Company, Emporium Department Store, Grass Roots Bookstore, Creative Crafts and Frame Shop, Gracewinds Music, and Sid Stevens Jewelers in Albany.
