CORVALLIS - Pianists Angela Carlson and Rebecca Jeffers will host and perform in a concert of Romantic period music for piano four-hand and vocal quartet, on Sunday, Nov. 10. The program begins at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 4515 S.W. West Hills Road in Corvallis. Donations at the door are welcome.
Carlson and Jeffers, both of whom are teachers and musicians on the OSU faculty, have played piano duets together for 25 years. They will be joined by Portland pianists Timothy Nickel and Nancy LeRoi Nickel, who also have performed ensemble keyboard music together for more than 25 years as the LeRoi-Nickel duo. Singers Nancy Emmerich, soprano; Lisa Actor, mezzo-soprano; James Schmitt, tenor; and Richard Poppino, baritone, will join them.
The program features German Romantic music by composers Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn, Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn, and Johannes Brahms. Opening and closing the program are Schumann's "Spanische Liebeslieder" and Brahms' "Liebeslieder Waltzer," both cycles of love songs for vocal quartet and piano four-hands.
Other works on the program are for piano duet alone.
