CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by David Hoffman, will perform on Friday, March 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in LaSells Stewart Center. The center is located at 26th Street and Western Boulevard in Corvallis.
The program includes a richly varied selection of musical works including "Canzon Trigesimaquinta" (35th Canzona) by 16th-century Italian composer Tiburtio Massaino; "Colonial Song" by Percy Grainger; "French Impressions" by English composer Guy Wolfenden; the overture to Leonard Bernstein's "Candide"; Arnold Schoenberg's "Theme and Variations"; and Alfred Reed's "Armenian Dances" (Part I).
The OSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble is an auditioned 48-member band consisting of the finest wind instrumentalists and percussionists on campus. This is Hoffman's second year as OSU's director of bands. In addition to overseeing the band program and conducting the wind ensemble, he directs the OSU Jazz Ensemble, coordinates instrumental studies, and teaches courses in conducting and instrumental music education.
Admission is $5 at the door; OSU students with ID are admitted free of charge.
