CORVALLIS - An award-winning art exhibit called "Seeing the Forest: Supporting the American Dream" has opened at Oregon State University's LaSells Stewart Center and will be on display through Jan. 30.
The works of 24 Oregon artists explore how Oregonians, by our actions as consumers, are linked to forests.
"The idea behind this exhibit is to stimulate visitors with provocative images to get them thinking and talking about values, forests and forestry issues," said OSU Extension forester Brad Withrow-Robinson.
OSU Forestry Extension organized the traveling exhibit, which features the work of eight local artists: Willow Fox, Kathryn Honey, Linda Johansen, Ann Lahr, Beatrice Rubenfeld, Peggy Sharrow, Barbara Spreadbury and Tony Van Vliet.
"This exhibit contains works in a broad array of artistic media including oil, watercolor, acrylic, photography, fiber arts, ceramic and wood carving," said Withrow-Robinson.
This is the third "Seeing the Forest" art exhibit to tour the state. The exhibit opened in Baker City in August, and traveled to Springfield, Grants Pass and Newport. The show concludes at the State Capitol in Salem in February.
LaSells Stewart Center hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and evenings and weekends when the building is used for public events. It will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.
