BEND - An expert in helping students plan for college will speak at Oregon State University-Cascades Campus on Monday, Jan. 6, as part of the First Monday Lecture Series.

Carolyn Platt of College Edge Consulting, a Central Oregon firm that has worked with hundreds of area families, will present "The ABCs of College Planning: How to Get Into College and How to Pay for It." The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. in Hitchcock Auditorium.

Platt will discuss new trends in college admissions and financial aid planning, strategies for getting into a person's "dream college," and how to understand the mysteries of the application process.

There are about 3,500 colleges and universities today from which students can choose, Platt said. Choosing an institution that best suits an individual's needs and abilities can be an important life and career move, but the process has become increasingly complex and confusing.

Platt has a doctorate in higher education from Stanford University, and extensive experience in the college admission process from previous positions at Occidental College, Wellesley College and Yale University.
