CORVALLIS - The Center for Gene Research and Biotechnology at Oregon State University is sponsoring a mini-symposium on Wednesday, May 1, titled "Frontiers in Plant Biology: Invaders, Defense, Time and Silence."

The event will be from 2-5 p.m. in the Agricultural and Life Sciences Building, Room 4001, on the OSU campus. It is free and open to the public. Speakers and their topics include:

  • Jim Carrington, professor and director of the OSU Center for Gene Research and Biotechnology, speaking on, "It's a Small RNA World After All."
  • Brian Staskawicz, of the University of California at Berkeley: "Molecular Evolution of Virulence in Xanthamonas."
  • Jeff Dangl, of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: "Surveillance of Disease Effector Proteins by Plant Resistance Gene Products."
  • Steve Kay, of the Scripps Research Institute: "As the World Turns: Comparative Genomics and Circadian Clocks."
