CORVALLIS - Comedy and fashion shows, music and dance, and a Renaissance Faire are some highlights of Oregon State University's Mom's Weekend celebration, which begins on Friday, May 3.

Most Mom's Weekend activities, which continue through Sunday, May 5, are open to the public, including the annual Interfraternity Council Sing, movies and exhibits.

This year's featured performer is comedian Wayne Brady, who has drawn national attention on the ABC television series, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" For ticket information contact the Oregon State University Athletic Ticket Office at 800-462-3287 or 541-737-4455.

Saturday's highlights include the Renaissance Faire in the Memorial Union Quad, which starts at 9:30 a.m. and continues through 5 p.m. Arts, crafts, foods and demonstrations are featured at the fair.

The College of Veterinary Medicine's annual Pet Day celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Magruder Hall on the corner of 30th Street and Washington Way. Activities include a petting zoo, dog wash and various exhibits and displays. There is no admission fee, although some activities have a small fee or donation. Families are encouraged to bring their pets on a leash.

Also on Saturday, a number of entertainment events will take place in the MU Quad.

Friday, May 3

  • All Day: Admission to Dixon Recreation Center, family members free when accompanied by a student with a valid OSU identification card; Valley Library self-guided tours; attend class with son or daughter; Fairbanks Art Gallery, "Photographs, Platinum and Palladium Prints," by Dick Arentz; art exhibit in MU Concourse Gallery, paintings by Tala Madani; 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; exhibit, "Paris street scenes and Asian prints," Center for the Humanities, 811 S.W. Jefferson; bowling, MU Recreation Center, $2.

     

  • 10 a.m.: Pottery sale, MU Student Lounge, through 3 p.m.

     

  • 11:30 a.m.: Joint Service Review featuring OSU ROTC units in a Joint Service Awards Formation and parade. Each of the armed services will present achievement awards to top students, MU Quad.

     

  • 1:30 p.m.: OSU Student Health Services detailing campus services, through 3:30 p.m., MU Quad.

     

  • 1:30 p.m.: Benton County Breast & Cervical Cancer Coalition display featuring collection of stories by breast cancer survivors, MU Quad, through 3:30 p.m.

     

  • 2 p.m.: Naval ROTC Spring Awards Ceremony featuring students who have distinguished themselves through their academic, leadership and professional achievements, MU Quad, or McAlexander Fieldhouse in the event of rain.

     

  • 4 p.m.: Admission to the OSU Climbing Center, family members get in free, through 10 p.m.

     

  • 4 p.m.: MUPC Fashion Show, "Avant Garde," MU Ballroom, $6.

     

  • 6 p.m.: "Dinner with Mom," vegetarian choice available, MU Room 109, $12.

     

  • 7:30 p.m.: Feature film "Legally Blonde," A PG-13 comedy featuring Reese Witherspoon, Milam Auditorium, 26th Street and Campus Way, free. Encore presentation at 10 p.m.
