McMINNVILLE - Improving facilitation skills to build your organization's effectiveness is the focus of a three-day facilitation-training workshop scheduled for Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and Nov. 14, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The workshop is intended for citizens who have experience leading meetings and working with organizations and want to improve their facilitation skills. The workshop is sponsored by the Oregon State University Extension Service's Family Community Leadership (FCL) program of Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties.

"Often leaders find themselves working with groups that seem to be unfocused or teams that have strayed from the primary task at hand," said Roger Bairstow, family and community development agent in the Yamhill County office of the OSU Extension Service. "Facilitation skills enable leaders to re-focus groups, gain full participation of members, and achieve results."

The workshop objectives are to give participants an understanding of the facilitation process and the role of a facilitator, group dynamics, communication strategies, information generating and decision-making techniques.

This workshop will stress the importance of applying skills learned, said Bairstow.

The OSU Extension Service FCL program enables volunteers to provide leadership skills to Oregon citizens in civic, community and other non-profit organizations. In partnership with the OSU Extension Service, FCL volunteers work with local groups to improve their effectiveness and become more action oriented.
