CORVALLIS - Alexis Walker, a professor of human development and family sciences at Oregon State University, has been elected editor of the Journal of Marriage and Family.

The journal is a publication of the National Council of Family Relations. Featuring original research and theory, reviews and critical discussion, the journal has been published for more than 60 years.

"(The journal) is the world's premier scholarly publication focused on marriages, families and close interpersonal relationships in family contexts," said Stephen R. Jorgensen, president of the National Council on Family Relations. "Dr. Walker's selection as editor is testimony to the high esteem in which she is held by her scholarly peers in the U.S."

Walker is holder of the J.L. Petersen Chair in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. She is a nationally recognized expert in family relations, especially the ties between elderly women and their adult daughters.

As editor of the journal, Walker will continue the tradition of including articles on controversial topics.

"Violence in intimate relationships, the work-family dilemma, families in poverty, husbands and housework...where else can you read about these things?" Walker said. "I've always liked reading the controversial articles. This is how the journal encourages more research, and expands what we know about families."
