CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University Agricultural Experiment Station is seeking proposals from individuals or groups interested in obtaining non-exclusive licenses for two new meadowfoam varieties - Knowles and Wheeler --- that were developed at OSU.

An informational meeting to discuss the varieties, licensing process and non-exclusive license agreements will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, Crop Science Room 122 at the corner of 30th and Campus Way on the OSU campus.

"The OSU Agricultural Experiment Station recognizes that there is considerable risk in market development and little to be gained by having licensed organizations compete for similar markets," said Russ Karow, interim head of OSU's Department of Crop and Soil Science. "It is the intent of the station to only grant licenses where there is reasonable evidence presented that alternative markets will be explored."

Proposals for non-exclusive licenses for Knowles and Wheeler should be submitted in writing. Companies seeking a license should provide written information, including type of business, crop production and marketing plans. Proposals for those interested in securing seed for fall 2001 planting must be submitted no later than July 20.

A team of OSU administrators will evaluate proposals. Parties submitting a proposal may be asked to meet with the evaluation team if additional information is needed. Licensing decisions for fall 2001 will be made in early August. Thereafter, proposals will be accepted on an on-going basis.
