CORVALLIS - More than $100,000 in scholarship awards for the 2001-2002 academic year have been announced by the Oregon State University Foundation Scholarship Awards Committee.
The scholarships will aid more than 35 students from throughout the country. The OSU Foundation scholarship program consists of several different scholarship funds established by individuals, firms, or organizations to assist students attending OSU.
Incorporated in 1947, the OSU Foundation is a private, non-profit corporation that works to aid and promote excellence in educational, research, and charitable activities at OSU by seeking, receiving, and administering private gifts for the benefit of the university.
Scholarship winners from out of state include:
ANCHORAGE: Valene Peratrovich, sophomore, undeclared major, $3,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
CORDOVA: Iris O'Brien, senior in natural resources, $5,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
KETCHIKAN: Randall Yates, junior in business administration, $2,500 William Harrison Gill Memorial Education Scholarship, established by OSU alumna Ruth Gill Hammond in memory of her father, an evangelist missionary.
WINDOW ROCK: Rachael Novak, senior in environmental sciences, $5,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
HONOLULU: Joanna Pang, $1,000 James and Nancy Johnson Scholarship, established by Portland, Ore., residents James B. and Nancy Johnson.
LAPWAI: Jonelle Whitman, junior in political science, $5,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
MONUMENT VALLEY: Leontine Oliver, junior in animal sciences - pre-veterinary medicine, $7,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
PUGET SOUND: Mildred McCloud, master's candidate in anthropology, $1,250 Leona Weatherford Scholarship, established by Leona Weatherford of The Dalles, Ore.
TACOMA: Amber Higgins, freshman, undeclared major, $3,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
TOPPENISH: LoriAnne Adams, master's candidate in college student services administration, $5,000 Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith Scholarship, established by the Helen J. and Harold Gilman Smith estate.
