CORVALLIS - A Medford woman has earned Oregon State University's Allworth Cultural Diversity Award.
Rashanna Lynn Edwards, who received her bachelor's of science degree in human development and family sciences from OSU this month, was honored for her leadership in development of cultural awareness on the OSU campus.
The award is named for Edward C. Allworth, OSU Memorial Union director from 1924-1963.
Edwards has worked in OSU's Minority Education Office and helped coordinate an OSU diversity summit conference earlier this year. Her efforts in the Minority Education Office also helped the office win the Year 2000 Beaver Spirit Challenge Award for efforts in helping welcome new students to campus. In March she was one of six OSU leaders recognized for commitment to diversity issues on campus.
The Minority Education Office at OSU was founded in 1997. The office seeks to increase the recruitment, retention and academic performance of students of color. The office also provides educational and cultural information to OSU students and surrounding communities.
