CORVALLIS - Beverly Law, an Oregon State University forest ecologist and expert on the interaction of forest ecosystems and the atmosphere, has been named to a national committee working to strengthen the nation's air quality management system.

Law, an assistant professor/senior research in the OSU College of Forestry, will join the Committee on Air Quality Management in the United States, operated by the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council.

The task of this committee, officials say, is to develop scientific and technical recommendations regarding air quality. It is now conducting a study of the effectiveness of the major air quality provisions of the Clean Air Act. The group will evaluate current approaches to identifying health and environmental problems, development of regulatory standards and air quality management plans, and other issues.

Law, who received her doctorate in forest ecology from Oregon State in 1993, has been on the OSU faculty since 1995.
