CORVALLIS - Oregon State University will announce on Thursday (Aug. 24) its plans to propel the OSU College of Engineering into one of the top 25 engineering programs in the country.

OSU leaders also will discuss their fund-raising campaign behind the engineering initiative and unveil details on one of the largest gifts in the university's history.

The announcement will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Capital Center in Beaverton. OSU President Paul Risser, College of Engineering Dean Ron Adams, and OSU engineering student Meredith Stewart will speak about the university's engineering plans. Other speakers will include Sen. Tom Hartung, R-Portland; Jim Johnson, vice president of Intel; and Skip Rung, research and development manager for Hewlett Packard's Corvallis plant.

Attending the event will be industry and education leaders, legislators, community leaders and OSU engineering alums. Oregon State University has more engineering alums in the Portland area than any other school in the U.S.

In his state of the state speech earlier this year, Gov. John Kitzhaber called for both a top tier engineering institution and for doubling the number of engineering graduates in Oregon. OSU is working with the Oregon University System and other institutions to achieve those goals.

The Capital Center is located at 18640 N.W. Walker Rd in Beaverton.
