PORTLAND - Six family-owned businesses will be named the 1999 Oregon Family Businesses of the Year at an awards dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Oregon Zoo, 40001 S.W. Canyon Road, Portland.
Registration for the day-long educational event, co-hosted by the Austin Family Business Program at Oregon State University and lead sponsor, U.S. Bank, begins at 12:30 p.m. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
After the 1 p.m. opening session, which involves a short case problem and a variety of solutions, a full afternoon of educational events and round table discussions is scheduled.

Topics will include: Knowing what your competition is up to; keeping the wealth you've built for your heirs, not taxes; keeping non-family members as part of your business; siblings and succession; what to expect when the boss isn't there anymore; when you can't or don't want to work anymore; what should you tell your children about wealth; investment strategies; and Y2K - are you ready?
